Style Study: Lauren

The kind of study you actually want to read about! We’re interviewing our most stylish seniors for details and advice on choosing wardrobe for your senior photo shoot.

Subject: Lauren W.
High School: East Lake High School

- LOOK ONE -

Photographer’s notes: why it works…
Layers are my favorite and a hood to frame your face is dreamy for any portrait. Blue is one of the best colors to photograph, it really pops and looks amazing in almost any surrounding, especially when it brings out your eyes like it does for Lauren. I love the urban simplicity of her grey tee, typography is so elegantly understated. And finally, the long necklace is PERFECT to give something for your hands to do and Lauren nailed it!!

- LOOK TWO -

dark blue jeans: American Eagle / red top: Marshalls / vintage brown booties: Pay less / Pearl & Heart Necklace: Icing

Photographer’s notes: why it works
I really love the subtle layers that Lauren’s top has at the bottom. I about freaked when I saw those mad men-esque brown booties! This whole look had an intellectual vibe, especially with her black frame glasses. They gave her something to do with her hands and made for a cute detail when we took them off.

- LOOK THREE -

Dark Blue Jeans: American Eagle / pink floral top: Tj Maxx / light pink knitted sweater: Tj Maxx / Pearl & Heart Necklace: Icing / Nude Pumps: Payless

Photographer’s notes: why it works…
Hello girl next door! Lauren did such a great job pairing these tones, I mean, EVEN HER NAILS MATCH! <insert heart eyes emoji here> This look is so comfortable yet classy. I LOVE the texture of her knit sweater; how we were able to give her hands something to do by pulling it closed (which again, she nailed) and how it flowed down past her blouse and hugged her body. Her pearl necklace adds interest, subtle details do so much for an image. Then her classic nude heels top everything off to really dress up the jeans.

Q+A

What made you choose these outfits for your shoot?
I wanted ensembles that displayed not only the different parts of my wardrobe but my quirky personality as well. The first outfit wasn’t actually planned! I wore it to the studio for hair and make up and TM loved it and wanted to work with it, so we did! I wanted to choose clothing that was fashionable and super cute but modest as well. I am a huge advocate for modesty and inner beauty so it was essential for me to pick outfits that not only expressed my personality and highlighted my natural features but preserved my values as well.

What did you love about these outfits? How did you feel wearing them?
To be totally honest, I adored these outfits because I felt like me and it was great! These ensembles are ones that I would wear on a daily basis so it was really awesome to embrace my style in a “trend setting” way haha. Primarily, I loved that these outfits were comfy! I tend to describe my style and Cute n’ Comfy and thats exactly what it was. I really loved that each outfit had a central color piece like the blue jacket or red top that really made the look pop!

Do you have any tips to share for shopping/prepping for a senior shoot:
Well, my first piece of advice is to not break your bank buying all new clothes. I personally didn’t spend a cent on any new clothes; but I did invest in some hair spray (I seriously have the straightest hair ever haha). You already have your best looks in your closet so design some outfits and hold a mini fashion show for your mom! (I guarantee she’ll love it) And by the way Theresa is not only a bomb photographer but an amazing stylist as well, she has a fantastic eye for fashion and can help you class up any look! My second piece of advice in prepping for a shoot would be to embrace spontaneity. Don’t panic about trying to get every location or worry about the weather. Some of my best shots were last minute/random idea shots! So relax and fun!

Terese :: Steinbrenner Class of 2016

Meet Terese who graduated from Steinbrenner High School with the class of 2016…

IN HER OWN WORDS:

“I chose Theresa Marie because I didn’t want my pictures to look so staged and tacky like they do when you get them done in front of the screens. I had an amazing time and loved every part of it. I felt like a princess and was completely comfortable. Getting to meet Theresa Marie was my favorite part, we clicked right away and she made it so much fun! When I first saw my images, I was shocked! I couldn’t believe it was me, I looked amazing!

I wouldn’t change anything about my experience! I had so much fun! The only thing I would change would be having more time to take pictures because it was so much fun! I would tell other seniors how sweet and kind Theresa Marie is! She makes you feel comfortable right away and her pictures are amazing! It’s the best experience I’ve ever had!

Doing my senior pictures with Theresa Marie was the best thing I did all senior year! She made me feel so special and comfortable in front of the camera! My pictures turned out amazing and I know they’ll be something I will treasure forever! I wish I could do this again!”

Maddie :: Ohio Senior Class of 2016

Meet Maddie who came all the way from Ohio…

IN HER OWN WORDS:

"Coming from Ohio, we were hesitant to get my pictures taken really anywhere but our local area. But after some research, and a Florida vacation planned, Theresa Marie came into the picture and we took a change and it was well worth it! I knew the experience was going to be amazing once I walked into her office. From getting my makeup done, picking out outfits, driving to the beach and the pictures themselves, my parents and I were all so excited. My favorite part was taking pictures on the beach because that was a dream I’ve always had, to get my senior pictures done on a beach. It truly was a dream come true.

I was more than pleased when I saw my pictures. Theresa Marie captured my true personality and happiness in her pictures. I have never been so pleased with pictures of myself. I would not have changed anything about my experience. It all was flawless! I would recommend Theresa Marie to any parents or seniors, not only because she is a great photographer, but because of her personality. I think her personality was the thing that, after my pictures were over, my parents and I were so blown away by. It was meant to be that we picked her to take my senior pictures.

I knew nothing about photographers in the area since we came to Florida for a vacation. After hearing about Theresa Marie and looking at her website, I knew I found the right photographer. Once the time came for my pictures, I was nervous and anxious because I knew nothing about her and her business, other than from her website. But the anxiety quickly vanished once we finally met. I knew I had made the right choice very quickly, and the day of my shoot was one I will never forget. Theresa Marie made my senior picture shoot so memorable, and I can never thank her enough for that!"

IN HER OWN WORDS:

“I wanted a photographer that would capture me in a way that was timeless, not cheesy like a lot of senior pictures are. I found Theresa through google and did some researching and fell in love with her style. After talking with her on the phone I knew I could trust her to give me a perfect senior shoot.

It was an awesome experience. I knew I didn’t need to stress because I was in good hands! My favorite part was getting my makeup done and planning the shoot because we could just laugh and get excited for what was to come! At my reveal I was truly blown away…I felt beautiful!! I love my pictures so much.

I am so grateful that I found Theresa. She gave me such a unique senior experience and it was truly the cherry on top of my final months as a senior! Not only does she do beautiful work, but she makes you feel so special. Everything Theresa does is done with care and detail in mind. If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing!!

Theresa doesn’t just take pictures, edit them, and give you your order. She makes it a whole experience. From her Snapchat stories to her adorable ‘Pink Starburst’ notes, she makes you feel so special. She is the most detail-oriented person I’ve met and I feel like I can honestly call her a friend. Lindsey :: Plant City Senior Class of 2015

Meet Lindsey who is a 2015 graduate from Plant City High school…

IN HER OWN WORDS:
“My family and I didn’t have any hesitations with senior pictures because we knew it was something we really wanted to do before I graduate. We felt that it was important to have proffesional pictures done during such a big part of my life so that we could look back on them. I chose Theresa Marie because my friend actually saw her online and once I stalked her site I fell in love with the way she captures people. I really liked her whole style that she had and I felt like I could connect with her.

My overall experience with Theresa Marie was excellent and I would recommend her to anybody that wants to get senior pictures done! I loved how comfortable she made me feel from all of the sweet treats she had to the gift bag I got at the end. I’m not a person who likes to take pictures all of the time because I’ve always felt that I’m not that photogenic but once we started she had me loosen up with her silly sense of humor and corny jokes which helped me a lot plus my best friend, Megan was there to make weird faces in the background. I loved getting the chance to have airbrushed makeup done because I’ve never done it before and because it looked amazing!

It’s hard to say what my favorite part was because the whole process was pretty fun but I took some pictures with my best friend who is going to UF while I’m going FSU and that was really special since we got to capture moments together before we have to go our separate ways even though we could never really be separated.

Also I loved seeing my pictures with my mom and seeing her reactions as I sat back and ate some popcorn courtesy of Theresa! When I first saw my images I was very surprised and overwhelmed because they all were so nicely done thanks to Theresa and I felt very special in that moment! It’s not every day that you watch a video that is all about you.

Theresa’s jokes and comforting sayings made me feel at ease while taking pictures since I was a little tense at first. Towards the end of the shoot we were all laughing and Theresa made me feel like a princess with the way she had all of these special things all ready for me. I was not expecting to be treated like a queen but that’s how Theresa will make you feel. She does all of these little extra things that most people maybe wouldn’t do but they make you feel special.

I’m so thankful to have such a sweet and caring photographer like her and I will always remember and cherrish the moments we had while capturing my senior pictures! Theresa Marie is awesome and you would be lucky to have her as your photographer for senior pictures!”

IN HER OWN WORDS:
“I was hesitant about the entire senior photoshoot itself. I’ve never really been good in front of a camera because I don’t know what to do with myself. My family and I also knew how pricey senior photos could be, which made us even more hesitant. We chose Theresa Marie because we fell in love with her work. Her ability to capture all kinds of personalities showed through the beautiful photos featured on her website.

My overall experience with Theresa Marie was just as amazing as her! She made me feel so comfortable and genuinely good about myself. Theresa does a great job at bringing out the best in people and it shows in the photos! My favorite part was the actual shoot because I felt like a model for the day. It was definitely an experience to remember.

When I first saw my images I fell in love with them. They were so perfect, and Theresa did a fabulous job at capturing my true colors!

I wouldn’t have change a single thing about my experience. Everything was perfect! From the preparation for the shoot to the very end, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I would recommend Theresa Marie to any senior! She is amazing at what she does and is such a sweet person!
